Every recipe starts with a leap of faith. In fact each day begins with a leap of faith. We must have faith to start the day because if we don’t then why bother getting up? In the movie Flashdance the character played by Jessica Biehl wants to be a professional dancer. For her day job she’s a welder and dances for money at night, although not stripping, per se. Her boss and love interest Michael Nouri and she are talking after her old friend dies and she asks how he handled his divorce and business failings. He said one day he walked to the end of the pier, took a deep breath, and jumped off. Metaphoric, however, apropos.
He took a leap of faith and started again. That’s what we have to do if we are to make cookies. We must have faith; whatever faith you consider important, that the ingredients are proper, that they will mix well, that the cookies will bake properly, and that they will taste good or pleasing. The most important part of all of this, though, is that they are your cookies and they only need to feed you and your soul. Don’t get involved with other people and their tastes in cookies. Others may like the cookies you make or not. You make like the cookies other bake or you may not. But you need to like YOUR cookies.
