Everything happens in the west. Or at least most of the country thinks that. After Akureryi we will drive to the extinct volcano Snæfellsjökull. This volcano was made famous by the French Writer Jules Verne in his novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth. While you cannot get to the center of the earth now you may still see the majesty of this great Iceland landmark.
From there we drive to Akranes for the night and visit this fishing and seaside town. On the way we can stop at the Argricultural University if any are so inclined or in the town of Borgarnes where The Valhalla Murders was filmed for Netflix.
On your fifth day in country we will drive back to Reykjavik by way of the North Sea Tunnel, which goes; you guessed it, under the North Sea. In Reykjavik we will visit the main down town, have lunch at the Loki Cafe, go to the top of Hallgrimskirkja, the Lutheran church in the middle of the city that affords a 360 degree view of the city from the top of the spire.
After checking in to the hotel for a little rest we will hit the night life of the city. Dinner choices are as varied as your pallete. The hotel is right on the waterfront so you may walk to the entire city area for anything you wish. Recommendations will be provided during the tour.
The next morning we leave bright and early for the Golden Circle, beginning with Gullfoss, the second largest waterfall, followed by Geysir, then lunch and a hot spring relaxation at the spa at Laugervatn. After that it's off to Thingvellir the home of the original icelandic law givers, and then back to Reykjavik for another night on the town.
Finally one more day of museums. We will go to the National Museum of Iceland, the Saga Museum, the Settlement Museum, have Icelandic Ice cream, enjoy the world's best hot dog just a few hundred meters from your hotel room, and final shopping before we pack to go home.
Your last morning in Iceland you will visit the Hellisgerði Park where the Huldufolk are said to live. Or so it's reported. After that it's lunch in Keflavik, A small museum, and off to the airport to return the car and get you all home safely.
